New extended piano technique teaching videos online

I’ve finally worked out the bugs in uploading videos of my own teaching to this site… You can now view 6 full lessons I gave in Novi Sad a couple of years ago – it took me that long to figure out the ins and outs of putting them online! My thinking is still pretty much the same as it was back then – I hope you can both enjoy and learn from these clips.

Back to basics: involving all of yourself in piano technique

Another lesson with Marko – fascinating as usual. A simple repeated 8th note pattern in the right, chords on the off beats in the left. Very simple you say. But sometimes that chord would come with the 2nd or 4th eighth note instead of the 3rd – he had tremendous difficulty with it.

The downside of relaxation in piano technique

We are all victims of the relaxation school.

I taught in Germany last weekend and had a very interesting group. One student played the Liszt sonata with real élan and passion, but I could see he was struggling physically. His musical emotion was being stifled by his physical organization, and to help him I had to review a whole group of key problems that are generally prevalent in piano technique today.
