In that same Bartok #20, the other hand has a series of chords that looks very simple to a trained musician. But I realized that Marco was processing these notes by naming them individually – he had no concept of what they constituted: a chord. It was as if he could spell each word but not recognize the group of letters as a word. This of course slowed things down considerably.
